Danny Silverstone

Executive Director

Danny Silverstone became INTERIGHTS' Executive Director in February 2010. He has worked extensively on equality and diversity policies and programmes in the United Kingdom and, in particular, was the CEO of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), Europe’s premiere equality body, where he led a major transformation process that prepared the CRE to deliver its enhanced legal responsibilities for race equality throughout the UK. At CRE Danny led a team of 20 lawyers with an active work programme of litigation, investigations and enforcement. He co-led the CRE’s path-finding formal investigation into racism within the English Prisons service, whose recommendations were fully endorsed by HM Prisons Service. At CRE Danny was involved in equality programmes across the European Union.

Prior to joining the CRE Danny was CEO of London Boroughs Grants a statutory grant maker with an annual budget of £28m and has much experience of funding human rights NGOs. He set up London Funders a network of over 100 funders with a collective net worth of over £400m. His previous management career in local government included lead roles in education, diversity and human resources.

Most recently Danny was chief executive of London Remade, an environmental not for profit business active in sustainable procurement, recycling and resource efficiency. He has extensive senior management and leadership experience, much of which has been gained in complex, political environments. 

Danny holds a BA (Hons.) in Politics from Sussex University and an MA in Government from the University of Manchester. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has held a number of board positions, including membership of the England Committee of the Big Lottery the biggest investor in NGO activity in England.
