Publications Volunteer

A vacancy has arisen to assist the Information and Publications Officer at INTERIGHTS as a Publications Volunteer. The position will include a variety of editing, research and administrative tasks, and provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience in an international human rights charity.

The post would suit a law student/graduate with some knowledge of human rights law. It is essential that the volunteer is able to manage multiple tasks, has excellent communication skills, is fully IT literate and can demonstrate good editing skills and attention to detail.

The post is for one day per week for an initial period of three months, but there is some flexibility and alternative working patterns could be explored. It may be possible to do some of the work remotely from a computer following training.

This is an unpaid position but we will reimburse your out-of-pocket expenses of a travel card zone 1-6 and up to £5 a day for lunch. You will be required to provide receipts before you can claim for these expenses.

Human Resources Volunteer

INTERIGHTS is based in London, Angel, N1 9LH.

The volunteer will be required to support the Human Resources Team in general human resources operations including reception, recruitment and other day-to-day activities.

We are looking for someone who can spend 2 – 5 days with us per week for a minimum of 1 month (or 2 months dependent on number of days volunteered per week). We can be flexible with days. Skills and Experience Required:

  • Understanding of, and demonstrable interest in, human resources;
  • Experience of volunteering (preferable);
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good research, report writing and analytical skills;
  • Knowledge and experience of MS Office packages, especially Word and Excel;
  • Strong administrative skills;
  • Ability to work on own initiative;
  • Ability to settle quickly into a small team;
  • Sensitivity to working in a multicultural environment;
  • Commitment to INTERIGHTS' values.

Consultancy – Impact Measures

To be completed by 15th August 2012. Remuneration negotiable (maximum 20 - 25 days consultancy).

Since 1982 INTERIGHTS has played a leading role in promoting human rights through the use of international and comparative law. We have pursued this through strategic litigation and a range of complementary capacity-building activities, working with lawyers, judges and civil society partners worldwide. INTERIGHTS currently focuses its activities in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa and South Asia, and thematically on economic and social rights, equality and security and the rule of law.

We are seeking an expert consultant to assist us in finalising an impact measures proposal for our strategic litigation work.

The successful candidate will have a strong background and track record in monitoring and evaluation. While a specific background in human rights law is not essential, the successful candidate should have the capacity to quickly understand the specific challenges and opportunities around monitoring strategic litigation.

The closing date for expressions of interest for this consultancy is Friday May 18th. We plan to hold interviews with respondents to this tender call during the week of May 28th. Please indicate your availability during that week.
