Holds a laurea in law from the University of Parma, a master's degree in international relations from the University of Bologna and a doctorate in public international law from the State University of Milan. Works on a part-time basis at INTERIGHTS, providing legal research assistance to the Security and Rule of Law Programme and the Legal Director. Silvia is also Research Fellow in Public International Law at the Faculty of Laws, University College London, where she teaches graduate courses on the international protection of human rights and the laws of war. Since 2003, she has been a Visiting Research Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. She has published articles and book chapters on, inter alia, the relevance of human rights guarantees to transfer of individuals in the context of cooperation in criminal matters and immigration control, and the treatment of terrorist suspects.
